General Description:
The Mixed Signal Solutions department at HRL Laboratories is a diverse team of scientists and engineers working on integrated circuit design, advanced packaging, signal processing, and integration of complex mixed signal systems for commercial and government R&D. We seek an experienced leader for R&D efforts focused on high dynamic range, low noise, densely integrated mixed signal systems. This role demands deep expertise in integration, characterization, testing, troubleshooting, and simulation of complex systems involving hundreds of high dynamic ranges (>100 dB), high-speed (up to 10 GHz) digital signals, complex digital interfaces, embedded software/firmware, and advanced thermal/mechanical integration such as 2.5D and 3D packaging.
Essential Duties:
Manage tradeoffs across system development including RF performance, thermal-mechanical, chemical, manufacturability, and cost factors with theory-driven analysis.
Lead and organize R&D projects executed by cross-disciplinary technical teams.
Mentor and guide team members on technical and organizational aspects.
Maintain vendor and partner relationships and collaborate with internal teams.
Required Skills:
Over 8 years' experience in integration, characterization, and troubleshooting of high-performance mixed signal systems.
Familiarity with commercial packaging, IC processing, and typical mixed signal components (transmitters, receivers, ADCs, DACs, amplifiers, mixers, RF/microwave components) and application tradeoffs.
Broad foundational knowledge across mixed signal domains with deeper expertise in power noise resolution, electrical characterization (O-scopes, spectrum analyzers, VNA, TDR), high dynamic range signal analysis, and software/firmware development and troubleshooting.
Skilled in electrical component characterization, and software tools like Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW.
Proficient in system engineering, Microsoft Office, technical writing, and working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
Required Education:
MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or related field. Candidates with different experience levels may be considered for other positions.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship required. Must obtain and maintain security clearance. Active SSBI preferred.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $163,150 - $209,088 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
