Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to join a highly technical team supporting mission-critical systems for the Intelligence Community. The ISSE serves as the bridge between high-level security requirements and their technical implementation. This role demands a strong understanding of cybersecurity policy, deep technical knowledge of information systems, and hands-on experience guiding programs through the full lifecycle of Assessment and Authorization (A&A) using ICD-503 RMF. 

The ISSE will collaborate closely with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM), Program Manager, and broader development teams to ensure all systems meet required compliance standards. 

The role also involves managing the accreditation process and sustaining compliance across multiple virtual and bare-metal Linux environments, as well as supporting some Windows systems. 

The successful candidate will have a system administration and cybersecurity background, supporting teams working with tools and systems such as DNS, FreeIPA, Jira, Elastic Stack, VMware, and Veeam. The ISSE must be able to evaluate proposed designs, recommend improvements, and take ownership of the security engineering process for multiple systems.  

Job Responsibilities:

• Defining and overseeing security architecture.
• Writing and maintaining documentation such as security plans and incident response plans.
• Supporting audit and risk assessment activities.  

Required Skills:

• Experience with Information Assurance and Information Security practices in Intelligence Community environments.
• Expertise in ICD-503 C&A processes and supporting documentation.
• Security engineering knowledge including network architecture, configuration management, encryption, and firewalls.
• Familiarity with NIST SP 800-37, CNSS, and other RMF-related guidance.
• Hands-on experience with continuous monitoring, compliance scanning, and vulnerability management using tools like NESSUS, NMAP, Rapid7, WebInspect, AppDetective, Nipper, and SNOW.
• Ability to support A&A test and evaluation and communicate technical security requirements across teams.
• Security+ or CISSP certification.  

Desired Skills:

• Proficiency with Windows and Red Hat Linux/Unix systems; Red Hat Certified System Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent preferred.
• 5+ years of Linux system engineering or administration experience.
• Cisco CCNA and CCNA Security certifications or equivalent knowledge.
• Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, etc.).
• Experience with Puppet, Ansible, or Foreman.
• Experience with SNOW/ServiceNow and source control tools like Git, GitLab, CVS, SVN.
• Experience with audit log tools, PKI, SSH, SSSD, HTTPD.
• Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with SAN storage systems, enterprise monitoring (Grafana), VMware VSAN, Veeam, Oracle, and MySQL.
• Strong written communication skills for both technical and executive-level audiences.  

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and at least 10 years of relevant experience.
