Background Information:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Systems Software Engineer to be based in our Mount Laurel, NJ office. Leveraging advanced software automation, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI-driven capabilities, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense. The company is dedicated to transforming defense systems through innovation, efficiency, and mission-critical results.

Overview:

The Systems Software Engineer will be responsible for developing IDT's automated test and analysis for tactical systems and subsystems supporting DOD air and surface warfare platforms such as guided-missile destroyer, guided-missile cruisers, and littoral combat ship. Prior experience with development and test processes of complex systems is beneficial. Additional responsibilities include the development of project integration solutions and analysis capabilities for the Aegis Combat System. Day to day involves working with software engineers, system architects, integration engineers, and subject matter experts to deliver end-to-end mission solutions.

Software Systems Engineer responsibilities include gathering user requirements, defining system functionality and writing code in various languages, like Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript. The ideal candidate is familiar with the software development life cycle (SDLC) from preliminary system analysis to tests and deployment, MBSE, and system engineering processes and methodologies.

All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance .

Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop automated software analysis solutions for Aegis test events
  • Interface with customers for technical and programmatic requirements
  • Oversee relevant aspects of project lifecycle from initial kickoff through requirements analysis, design, testing and implementation phases for projects
  • Contribute to Systems Integration practice
  • Assist with the integration of new applications as they are added to the tactical environment
  • Create and implement interface following Model Based System Engineering approach
  • DoD Air and Surface Warfare related software design, development, and analysis
  • Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Model/code testing algorithms in C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java
  • Integrate software components into a complex software Dev environment


Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field


Required Skills:
  • Ability to develop software in Java, C++, MATLAB, or Python [at least two] and other programming languages
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Ability to perform many concurrent assignments and determine the need for changing priorities
  • Ability to lead the logical systematic conversion of program requirements into solution that acknowledge technical and cost constraints
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and software design patterns
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including sequence of operations, technical product literature, programming manuals, specifications and A|E drawings
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes
  • Ability to travel approximately 15%


Preferred Skills:
  • Understanding of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
  • Experience analyzing Aegis Weapon System data
  • Systems integration and test experience for tactical applications (Aegis Weapon Systems, CEC, Link16, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in deploying and maintaining applications in a mission critical operational environment
  • Experience with software testing, configuration management, and test automation
  • Have experience working with Aegis Weapon Systems or NAVSEA tactical applications
  • Experience using MagicDraw/Cameo
  • Experience using architecture framework like DoDAF/UPDM/UAF
  • DoD Air and Surface Warfare software development domain knowledge and experience
  • System integration and test experience for complex software applications
  • Have hands-on experience with Java/J2EE and object-oriented programming
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, JavaScript, Python, and database design [all]
  • Proficiency working with different SW development tools (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, and Nexus, Git etc.)

Pay Range: $90,000 - $150,000 or $114,000 - $184,000

Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate's experience, skills, and education. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
