Position Description
Serco is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic ROV Engineering Technician and Instructor to support a high-profile, mission-critical role with the U.S. Navy. Based at the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) in Fort Walton Beach, FL, you will provide engineering support and technical instruction for underwater systems, with a focus on remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
This role combines hands-on technical maintenance with classroom and field instruction. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting Navy EOD operations, ensuring optimal performance of ROV systems, and mentoring the next generation of EOD professionals.

Based at the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) in Fort Walton Beach, FL, you will provide engineering support and technical instruction for underwater systems, with a focus on remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
This role combines hands-on technical maintenance with classroom and field instruction. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting Navy EOD operations, ensuring optimal performance of ROV systems, and mentoring the next generation of EOD professionals.
In this role you will:
- Perform maintenance and repairs on the MK 20 MOD 1 ROV and other EOD systems.
- Report and document system malfunctions using designated databases
- Prepare training material, conduct classroom and hands-on, in-water operational training for ROV and other EOD systems
- Instruct and support students during training on the MK 20 MOD 1 ROV
- Mentor and train new instructors on ROV maintenance and operations
- Assist with the maintenance, repair, and training for other Navy EOD support systems
- Provide additional logistics, equipment support, and training duties as directed by NAVSCOLEOD personnel
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Associates degree or other 2 year technical degree in a related discipline with 2- 4 years of experience; or High School Diploma with 5 years related (DoD/USN) experience
- The ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance (post employment)
- Understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, servos, and sensors
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with robotic systems
- Recent experience working with unmanned underwater systems
- Prior instructor experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- 10% potential travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior Navy EOD or Diver experience is a plus
- Hands-on operational and instructional experience with Navy unmanned systems, especially the MK-20 Mod 0 (VideoRay Defender), MK-21 Mod 0 (SRS Fusion), MK-18 (Swordfish), or vLBV300 (Seabotix)
- Formal training on EOD ROV systems or similar unmanned maritime systems via OEM, Navy courses, or NIWC Pacific course of instruction
- Navy Master Training Specialist or equivalent is highly desired
- Two years of instructional experience in a classroom and/or field training setting
