Network Engineer

Location: Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas

JOB SUMMARY:

The position involves installing, configuring, and maintaining network switches, routers, workstations, servers, and other peripherals to support offensive mission activities. The role includes optimizing system performance, troubleshooting complex system and network problems, and developing instructions for installing and maintaining networked systems. The position also involves resolving hardware, software, and LAN/WAN issues, ensuring proper functionality and conducting system backups. Additionally, the role includes administering user accounts, assigning/resetting passwords, and installing upgrades or modifications on customer workstations.

PR IMARY DUTY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Configure commercially acquired web services to meet customer requirements and monitor their status, making updates as needed.
  • Configure and maintain critical infrastructure for the Joint Mission Operations Center (JMOC).
  • Design and build the information technology framework or environment using commercial hardware, software, networks, and security to support system functionality.
  • Guide information technology technical projects to ensure compliance with project requirements and IT architecture.
  • Identify, manage, measure, and maximize reuse, and manage changes to the IT architecture.
  • Keep the IT architecture up to date by reviewing and introducing changes based on project requirements, industry trends, emerging technologies, standards, and new vendor offerings.
  • Collaborate with technical and application teams to identify, evaluate, and recommend technical solutions that support project requirements.
  • Design and integrate various functions of network and telecommunications equipment into functional systems, adhering to international, U.S., and military standards.
  • Document equipment layout, considering power, cooling, security, and functionality.
  • Understand and integrate NSA serial and IP encryptions into networks and systems as necessary.
  • Stay informed about emerging telecommunications trends and technologies and implement new technologies as appropriate.
  • Integrate appropriate installation hardware, such as equipment racks and necessary cabling.

Security Clearance: Top Secret SCI - Willing to take Polygraph

Education/Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification

Relevant Experience: 5-7 years' experience in System/ Network Administration; Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting system resource issues and security issues; Experience with small and large network environments and supporting computer resource issues, resolving problems, installing systems, updating and upgrading systems; Poss excellent analytical and technical problem-solving skills; Knowledge of System software, networks, and computer equipment; knowledge of VoIP and VTC over NIPRNET, SIPRNET and JWICS

Key Requirements: IAT LVL II Certification, required training or equivalent experience level: Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), and have sufficient technical knowledge with the following software: Juniper, PFSense, OpenNebula, Elastic Kibana, Zentayl, and FreeIPA.
