Position Description

Serco is seeking a Principal Space Operations Analyst Trainer to join our dynamic team supporting the Joint Staff J7, Joint Training, Deployable Training Division (DTD) at Suffolk, Virginia. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals committed to enhancing operational effectiveness for the current and future joint force.

In this role, you will:
  • Act as a subject matter expert and trainer in Space operations within joint, multinational, interagency, and globally integrated exercises and operations.
  • Integrate into, contribute to, and provide functional continuity in the DTD's Fires and Effects Section, training and observing in areas including Fires and Targeting, Cyberspace Operations, Space Operations, Public Affairs, Integrated Air and Missile Defense, and Operations in the Information Environment (OIE).
  • Mentor, train, and support new Observer Trainers (OTs).
  • Participate as a member of Deployable Training Teams (DTTs) observing, training, and providing feedback during exercises and staff assistance visits (SAVs).
  • Ascertain key command challenges at operational and strategic levels and conduct cross-functional analysis for development of lessons learned, insights, and best practices.
  • Understand strategic thought guiding campaign, deliberate, and crisis planning at the operational level.
  • Research strategic documents, real-world operations, and command plans and policies.
  • Conduct trend analysis, enhance battle rhythms, provide operational planning feedback, and develop exercise-related reports.
  • Develop the Commander's Facilitated After-Action Review (FAAR), Executive Summary Report (ESR), Combined Functional Report (CFR), Internal After Action Review (IAAR), and input into the Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JLLIS).
  • Maintain and update documents such as "Joint Operations Insights and Best Practices."
  • Develop and facilitate seminars for National Defense University's Senior Leader Education Programs (PINNACLE, CAPSTONE, and KEYSTONE).


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of professional and/or military operational experience; or specialized technical training and certifications directly related to the requirement; or
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional and/or military operational experience; or specialized technical training and certifications directly related to the requirement.
  • Graduate of Joint Forces Staff College or Service equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of Space Operations and experience at the operational level.
  • Must be willing to travel worldwide, including to areas considered hazardous duty (up to 25% of the time).
  • Must possess an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Expertise in Space Operations planning and integration across warfighting functions and domains.
  • Strong communication, mentorship, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop operational orders, conduct seminars, and present after-action reviews.
  • Deep understanding of strategic and operational-level campaign planning processes.

Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Combatant Command, Joint Task Force, Division, Afloat staff, or Wing staff experience.
  • Understanding of the Joint Planning Process (JPP).
  • Experience preparing and conducting seminars or study groups for senior military officers.
  • Experience compiling and presenting lessons learned and after-action material.
