Position Overview
As a Surface Ship Availability Work Package Manager, you will provide critical Availability Work Package (AWP) Management support to COMNAVSURFLANT and COMNAVSURFPAC Type Commander (TYCOM) staffs. This role involves developing, scheduling, planning, and tracking depot-level maintenance and modernization for surface ships using advanced Navy databases and collaboration with key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Availability Work Package Management
● Manage the Baseline Availability Work Package (BAWP) for assigned surface ships across deployment, repair, and training cycles.
● Utilize Navy databases including 3-M, M&SWP, NDE, NMD, AIM, TAAS, VSB, and others as needed to oversee maintenance activities.
● Monitor depot-level availability schedule changes and document root causes for extensions.
Depot-Level Availability Monitoring
● Review and track planning and execution milestones for depot-level availabilities.
● Monitor shipboard events such as Total Ship Readiness Assessments, Continuous Maintenance Availabilities, Maintenance Windows of Opportunity, and INSURV material inspections.
● Assess funding controls and maintenance requirements during the planning process.
Fleet Alteration Support
● Evaluate ship class execution strategies, fielding plans, and alteration costs/schedules.
● Track progress of Mandatory Technical Requirements (MTRs) post-AWP turnover from SURFMEPP.
Stakeholder Communication and Reporting
● Assist in crafting reports and naval messages for the Type Desk Officer.
● Produce deferral and lock letters for TYCOM, collaborating with stakeholders to balance mandatory and corrective maintenance.
● Plan and participate in key meetings (e.g., TYCOM planning conferences, Life Cycle Planning Conferences, IPTD meetings) and deliver concise After-Action Reports (AARs, max 2 pages).
● Provide analyses, briefs, and updates on maintenance and modernization planning.
Additional Duties
● Support related Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Surface Ship Availability projects, including advisory tracking and correction of Departures from Specifications.
Requirements
● Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
● Security Clearance: Eligible for SECRET Clearance
● Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
● Experience:
○ Minimum of 10 years in Navy maintenance practices; 12+ years preferred, specifically with surface ships and major availabilities alongside shipyard managers and port engineers.
○ Prior experience as 3MC, SUPSHIP, or Availability Coordinator highly desirable.
● Technical Skills:
○ Proficiency with Navy maintenance databases (e.g., 3-M, NDE, NMD) and ability to learn new systems.
○ Strong command of MS Office Suite (excel)
The hiring rate for this position is $39.50 + 4.93 H&W.
