Job Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Cable Technician to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.

The Senior Cable Technician Installs, configures, and maintains structured cabling systems to support USSOUTHCOM's command, control, and communication networks. This role provides leadership and oversight on installation teams, ensures adherence to industry and DoD standards, and is critical to ensuring reliable, secure cable infrastructure in mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities:

• Designs and integrates fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry standards and mission requirements
• Performs advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs to optimize network performance and reliability
• Implements security measures to protect cabling infrastructure while maintaining scalability, redundancy, and interoperability
• Leads installation projects, coordinating with engineers and stakeholders to integrate new technologies and resolve complex technical issues
• Manages lifecycle maintenance of cabling systems, aligning operations with cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations (COOP) strategies
• Conducts site surveys, system assessments, and compliance audits to maintain adherence to DoD regulations and technical specifications
• Provides Tier 3 and Tier 4 technical support, overseeing junior technicians and ensuring efficient execution of installation and maintenance tasks
• Performs stress testing on cabling infrastructure to validate system resilience in contested environments
• Coordinates with service desks and network teams to support enterprise connectivity and mission-critical operations
• Train and mentor junior cable technicians and engineers

Required:

• Associate's degree in electronics, information technology, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in cable infrastructure design with a minimum of 5 years of structured cabling experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role
• Strong knowledge of copper and fiber installation techniques, codes, and standards
• Experience with cable management and patch panel configurations
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work in ceilings or under floors, and use ladders and hand tools safely
• Familiarity with DoD environments and infrastructure security practices.

Desired:

• Bachelor's degree in related field
• BICSI Technician or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification
• Familiarity with cable testers like Fluke or NetScout
• Exposure to DoD or federal IT environments
• Experience in DoD, IC, or SCIF environments with an understanding of TEMPEST considerations
• Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Technician (CFOT)

Clearance:

• TS/SCI clearance required

Certification:

• DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
• CompTIA Security+ CE
• BICSI Installer 2, Technician, or RCDD
• Network+
