Job Description
Tyto Athene is searching for a RF Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman RF Engineer assists in the design, implementation, and optimization of RF systems, including wireless communication networks and equipment USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical communications infrastructure. This position requires hands-on experience and a solid understanding of RF principles to support defense and government communications infrastructure.

Tyto Athene is searching for a RF Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman RF Engineer assists in the design, implementation, and optimization of RF systems, including wireless communication networks and equipment USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical communications infrastructure. This position requires hands-on experience and a solid understanding of RF principles to support defense and government communications infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Performs troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis of RF systems, identifying and resolving issues related to interference, signal quality, and system performance
- Assists in the setup, calibration, and testing of RF equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and network analyzers
- Collaborates with senior RF engineers to implement new RF technologies and optimize existing systems based on performance data and user requirements
- Supports the analysis of RF network performance, conducting site surveys and signal measurements to confirm system coverage and reliability
- Prepares and reviews technical documentation related to RF system designs, test procedures, and performance results
- Assists with spectrum management, maintaining compliance with regulations and managing licensing for RF equipment
- Coordinates with external vendors and suppliers to procure RF components and equipment, evaluating products for suitability and performance
- Provides troubleshooting support during RF equipment failures, resolving basic issues and escalating more complex problems to senior engineers
- Participates in research and development activities to explore new RF techniques and technologies that could enhance system capabilities and performance
Required:
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field
- 4-9 years of experience in RF engineering or related communications field
- Demonstrated experience with RF system design and troubleshooting
- Experience with SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, and secure communications
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Knowledge of spectrum management and interference mitigation
- Experience with SATCOM modems, encryption devices (e.g., TACLANE), and line-of-sight systems
- Understanding of MIL-STD communications and IP transport over RF
- Familiarity with RF propagation modeling tools (e.g., ATDI, Pathloss, EDX SignalPro)
- Strong documentation and technical writing abilities
- Certified Wireless Network Professional
- Cisco Certified Network Associate or Professional
- OEM Vendor Training
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or equivalent

- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position.
