Work Requirements
Our work depends on a detail-oriented, personable, multi-tasking communicator joining our team and utilizing their writing, graphic design, and photography experience to develop information products to enhance public understanding of the customer's mission and programs.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
- Communicate with the STRATCOM Director and organizational stakeholders to help identify key program initiatives and develop effective strategic communications strategies to promote them
- Analyze and "translate" program information into engaging, informative, and professional materials for internal use and public release
- Produce and edit graphics, presentations, photos, captions, fact sheets, brochures, and other materials for use at stakeholder events and on official websites and social media platforms
- Coordinate with Strategic Communications personnel to sync efforts, maintain uniform organizational messaging and branding, and maximize public release opportunities for all approved content
- Develop and upload content for the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) and approved social media platforms
- Partner with organizational stakeholders to help plan and design content for internal and external websites and assist with updates as needed
- Produce professional, engaging written copy, graphics, and photos for public release, working with stakeholders and customers in the Department of Defense, academia, and industry, as required
- Provide event planning support to include developing posters, flyers, displays, banners, table throws, and other materials, and obtain printing services as needed
- Serve as back-up to photographer/videographer, when needed, to provide support for various events and official functions
- Provide on-site support during events and conferences, to include taking photos and staffing organizational booths
- Develop professional communication and correspondence with organizational leadership for review and revision of graphics, presentations, photos, articles, and captions for internal use and public release
- Comply with all federal, state, and local Public Affairs policies, procedures, and initiatives
- Participate in special projects, as required
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Education: Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience
- Required Experience: 5+ years of experience
- Required Technical Skills: Proficient with the following word processing photographic, and graphics editing software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
- Security Clearance Level: No secret clearance needed, however must have the ability to obtain a T1 security investigation
- Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Highly proactive and able to work both independently and in a team environment; Successfully communicate with personnel at various echelons using effective interpersonal skills; Ability to manage numerous projects while effectively prioritizing and adapting to changing requirements
- Preferred Experience: 2+ years of relevant communications experience within the Department of Defense or other Federal Government organization
- Location: Hybrid - on-site 3 days a week at Ft. Detrick, MD; Willingness to travel CONUS and OCONUS - 25%
