Overview
Seeking an experienced Data Scientist to develop and deploy NLP and ML models for large-scale, document-focused systems. Role involves end-to-end ML workflows, integration with data pipelines, and performance optimization. Strong Python skills and experience with production environments and streaming data are key. Onsite work required at Ft. Belvoir and Reston.
Security Clearance: TS/SCI required.
Minimum Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience in applied data science or machine learning roles.
• Strong Python skills with a focus on NLP and large language model (LLM) implementation.
• Experience with data cleaning, analysis, visualization, and mining.
• Familiarity with production-level systems and streaming data (e.g., Kafka).
• Proven ability to implement end-to-end ML workflows—from data preparation to deployment.
• Experience designing ML models for document classification, extraction, summarization, and search.
• Comfortable working with large-scale systems handling millions of documents weekly.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead development and iteration of ML models for document-centric use cases.
• Own and maintain data science workflows integrated into live production systems.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to interface ML models with data lakes and pipelines.
• Evaluate and improve performance of deployed models.
• Ensure models align with mission-critical operational requirements.
Skills and Proficiencies:
• Python for ML and NLP tasks.
• ML pipeline design and optimization.
• Data lake architectures and streaming tools (e.g., Kafka).
• Model deployment, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of systems and infrastructure concepts.
• Nice to have experience with:
o MLOps collaboration and robust deployment pipelines.
o Distributed systems like Cloudera, Hive, Spark, or Hadoop.
o Document indexing/search platforms and GPU-based workloads.
o Data tools such as R, SQL/NoSQL, EMR, and Gurobi.
o Visualization libraries: Plotly, Seaborn, or ggplot2.
Additional Information:
• Candidates should be willing to work onsite at both Ft. Belvoir and Reston locations.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
