Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an EHS Professional to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the Rolling Meadows site in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing certain environmental programs and supporting safety programs at Rolling Meadows in addition to implementing and managing EHS programs at several off-site areas as needed.

Key roles and responsibilities include:
  • Oversees the following environmental programs: Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC), stormwater, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, air permits/reporting, and wastewater.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains EHS programs for manufacturing, labs, and office buildings to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
  • Conducts internal compliance inspections and identifies actions necessary to meet local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Creates and updates Job Hazards Analyses.
  • Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for sites.
  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects.
  • Works to continuously improve the culture, awareness, and accountability of EHS programs.
  • Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, and site personnel.


Additional roles and responsibilities may include:
  • Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases, and regulatory agencies.
  • Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures.
  • Applies for new permits and renewals.
  • Conducts incident investigations.
  • Coordinates environmental compliance (RCRA, DOT) training for employees and conducts instructor-led EHS training.


Basic Qualifications for Level 2:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in the practice of environmental compliance, sustainability or EHS; or 6 years of related experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
  • (U.S. Citizenship required).


Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the practice of environmental compliance, sustainability or EHS; or a Master of Science (MS) in a STEM field with 3 years of experience; or 9 years of related experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
  • (U.S. Citizenship required).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing environmental compliance programs.
  • RCRA and DOT trained.
  • Experience with ISO14001.
  • Experience with supporting EHS programs for manufacturing.
  • Certifications in environmental or safety related programs, for example CHMM or CSP.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Tableau.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and its application to personal protective equipment (PPE) selection, chemical processes and compatibilities.
  • Experience assessing the health impact of physical and chemical agents.
  • Experience with overseeing third party consultants/contractors.


Salary Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00Salary Range 2: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
