Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with former Naval Officer experience to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. The candidate needs to be a detail-oriented self-starter who can quickly come up to speed and work collaboratively with staff, peers, leadership, and customers to successfully deliver major programs.
The Senior Systems Engineer will report into the Program Area Manager in the Systems Engineering Technical Planning and Execution area. The Senior Systems Engineer will be supporting the Navy customer in planning and executing technical reviews in accordance with SSP and DoD 5000 acquisition guidelines. The Senior Systems Engineer will assist in the development of instructions and guidance to execute systems engineering management functions including technical planning, SETR planning and execution, document and brief preparation, and coordination/communication liaison between the customer and the BAE Systems Engineering team. This role involves facilitating critical acquisition milestones, ensuring compliance with exit/entry criteria, and providing expert analysis to guide program decisions.

Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Minimum education and related/relevant professional work experience required: Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, or other related technical field and at least eight years of related/relevant professional work experience.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $130355 - $221603
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

- Technical Review Facilitation and Documentation:
- Support and Coordinate Technical Reviews leveraging training and experience from submarine operations to provide informed analysis and recommendations
- Collaborate with engineering, logistics, test, and contracting teams to ensure comprehensive technical assessments are conducted
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of Acquisition program documentation, OQEs, technical assessments, decision memos, and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms)
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor project progress against the plan, identifying potential deviations and risks.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular updates on project status.
- Risk Management:
- Conduct risk assessments and identify potential program risks.
- Assist in developing mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Facilitate meetings and document action items.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Communicate status updates to stakeholders effectively.
- Process Improvement:
- Analyze processes and identify areas for optimization.
- Recommend improvements to methodologies and tools.
- Identify and lead initiatives to develop automation of processes and reporting.
- Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive program documentation including project plans, status reports, and meeting minutes.

- 6+ years of experience supporting projects of varying size and scope
- 2+ years of DoD Acquisition program or Pentagon experience and a warfare qualified officer
- Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision, knowledgeable with project management methodologies and frameworks such as waterfall and agile
- Strong ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Proficiency in using tools like Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, Jira, and Microsoft Project to present data effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex information to stakeholders.
- Understanding of project management methodologies like Agile, Waterfall, and critical path analysis.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Submarine Officer with preference for SSBN experience
- Nuclear Qualified officer
- PMP, CAPM certification
- Knowledge/Experience supporting Navy SSP Strategic Weapons System
Pay Information
