Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced plumber who is ready to join our dynamic team of engineers, technologists, and military veterans. This position will be located in Wallops Island, VA at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC). SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.
The AEGIS Complex and SSDS (Ship Self-Defense Systems) Facility provides support to AEGIS, AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), and SSDS Lifetime Support Engineering, Training, In-Service Engineering, Interoperability Testing, Engineering Initiatives, and Technical Research & Development required to maintain and upgrade the fleet in a war ready condition and fully capable of executing its mission. Typical responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent
Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in the trade of plumber, and required license to perform the plumber functions in any U.S. state. Demonstrated experience in installation and repair of industrial type cooling systems for water cooled systems, dry air systems, and chemically cooled systems.
Security clearance requirement: This position requires successful candidate to be able to obtain a Secret level clearance. The criteria for obtaining and holding a clearance are driven by US government requirements. You must be a US citizen to obtain a security clearance. Selected candidate will receive a contingent offer and start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Some college or higher education
Ten (10) years demonstrated experience in the trade of plumber
Pay Information
This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.

- Assemble, install and repair piping, fittings and fixtures for heating, cooling, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Ability to study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required, sequence of installations to cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
- Ability to cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine, and bend pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or other tools.
- Ability to assemble and install valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
- Ability to join pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints
- Ability to fill pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is operational to support combat weapon systems operations.
