ManTech seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented temporary Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) Specialist to join our team at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida.

The candidate shall support work on-site at Cape Canaveral and shall provide support for the NASA Equipment Package including parachutes, aerial delivery packages and support equipment. This support includes technician and quality assurance related tasks.

This is a Temporary position that will end on September 9th, 2025.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Equipment Maintenance & Inspection: Conducts comprehensive maintenance, inspection, and serviceability checks on a wide array of aircrew flight equipment, including parachutes, dive gear, survival kits, oxygen masks, night vision systems, and associated machinery, adhering to technical specifications and publications.
  • Fabrication & Repair: Disassembles, assembles, cleans, fabricates, repairs, and packs various fabric and rubber components for personnel and cargo, such as flotation devices and advanced parachute systems.
  • Specialized Equipment Handling: Manages the installation, removal, inspection, and testing of automatic rip cord release devices, and oversees the proper handling, storage, and inspection of pyrotechnic items.
  • Safety & Hazardous Materials Management: Administers the unit's hazardous material program, maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and ensuring the proper storage, handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with environmental standards.
  • Logistics & Administration: Monitors equipment accountability, forecasts and researches new equipment purchases, maintains and updates technical regulations and publications, and advises on performance standards and work methods.
  • Training & Support: Performs continuation training for aircrew flight equipment and travels to remote locations to support inspections and launches for NASA and AFE equipment on crewed missions.
  • Mission Readiness: Ensures all unit aircrew flight equipment is in a constant state of operational readiness by rigging rescue-associated aerial delivery packages and repacking aerial delivery systems utilized by Guardian Angels.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as Air Force Specialty Code 1P051, 2T250 (or other service equivalent).
  • Possess a working knowledge of inspection and repack of aerial delivery packages, advanced parachute systems, and aircrew flight equipment associated with the Guardian Angel mission.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as Air Force Specialty Code 1P071, 2T270 or other Service equivalent.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, be very adaptable to change and have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with a diverse group of contractor and Government employees.


Security Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.


Additional Requirements:
  • This position requires strength and stamina to build airdrop packages, pack parachutes, and lift heavy equipment to facilitate training and mission requirements.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
