Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate must possess real-time scheduling expertise with proficiency in coordinating and deconflicting instrumentation assets for DoD, Government, and Civil customers, supported by comprehensive knowledge at all organizational levels of regulations governing airspace and range operations. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities are essential for assessing complex range resource requirements, identifying solution impacts, and making quick decisions during equipment failures or operational challenges.

The role requires air traffic control experience, including Restricted/Special Use Airspace advisory functions and Day-of-Launch Military Radar Unit duties, along with meticulous operational documentation skills for facility logs, equipment outages, Notices to Airmen, and airfield advisories. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional customer coordination abilities to analyze range user requests, resolve conflicts, and ensure stakeholder satisfaction while adapting to diverse, technologically complex operational environments.

A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Air Traffic Management, or related field is preferred (equivalent military/civilian experience considered), with FAA Air Traffic Control certification and airspace operations or range scheduling experience, particularly in space launch operations. Technical proficiency in scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite is required, complemented by strong communication skills for conveying complex information to diverse stakeholders, proven teamwork abilities in high-pressure environments, meticulous attention to detail, proactive leadership qualities, and a mission-oriented mindset supporting national security objectives. Security clearance eligibility and willingness to work extended hours in high-tempo operational environments are additional requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Thorough knowledge of range technical systems to understand all aspects of operational and test programs conducted on the Ranges.
2. Knowledge of Range safety regulations, Universal Documentation System, launch criteria, range clearance requirements, meteorological requirements data processing and analysis techniques, FAA regulations, administrative procedures and directives.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, techniques, processes and policies for scheduling Eastern Range and DoD Major Range and Test Facility Bases (MRTFB) utilization and ability to operate in a real-world/real-time operational environment; and necessary knowledge of scheduling requirements for joint launch operations and airspace management/flight operations activities.
4. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and coordinate work in order to respond to dynamically evolving events and constantly changing deadlines in a dynamic missile/space launch environment. Ability to apply technical, statistical and economic principles in evaluating utilization requirements versus available resources to identify/recommend effective solutions.
5. Practical knowledge of electronic and engineering principles, concepts and theories as applied to capabilities and limitations of range equipment, instrumentation and sensor systems, scientific data collection equipment, weapons support systems, telecommunications systems and frequency management.
6. Ability to establish and develop professional relationships and effective oral, written and electronic communication with high-ranking military officials, industry corporate executives, engineers and scientists, etc.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.

  • May be subject to recall during other than normal duty hours and may be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft within CONUS or to downrange sites in the performance of Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY).
  • PCS/Relocation funding is available.
  • This is a key position. In the event of war or national emergency this position must perform duties to support an assigned AF mission. Incumbent must be screened and removed from recall status
  • As a staff position not directly involved in the control and separation of aircraft, incumbent of this position is not covered by the special retirement provisions or premium pay provisions for Air Traffic Controllers.
  • Related experience in an operational launch, instrumentation technical application environment or air space management, is highly desirable but not required.
  • May perform other administrative or technical support tasks to facilitate Flight operations.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework".
