The successful candidate will join the Engineering team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA's Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Pressure Systems Group - Technician and Craft Supervisor.

As a CMOE employee, it is your primary duty and obligation to ensure your personal safety, the safety of coworkers and or customers. The employee will be able to set up and operate various high-pressure test stands with knowledge of the facility systems and sub-systems supplying them. The Component Verification Facility (CVF) Technician shall inspect, test on the high-pressure test stands and repair relief valves as an owner/user certified VR/TO shop at NASA Langley Research Center on air/gas, steam and liquid in accordance with an approved NBIC Quality Control Manual and the manufacturer's procedures and specifications as part of NASA's Safety Program. The CVF Technician shall inspect, test, and verify gauges, hoses and various other components for accuracy and integrity. Coordinate and document all tests and other information as required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Responsibilities:

  • A Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior, integrity and trust
  • Six years or equivalent experience operating test stands in a high-pressure environment to pre-test, disassemble, clean, in-process inspection, machine, lap, surface prepare, assemble, test and complete a final inspection on various relief valves in adherence to guidelines stated under a National Board VR/TO program.
  • Document repair, testing and assembly activities - cause of failure, actions taken, parts used, etc.
  • C ustomer communication - technical assistance, troubleshooting and determining disposition of repairs
  • Adherence to all safety, quality and company rules/regulations
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards
  • Reference appropriate technical sources
  • Interpret drawings, manuals, technical directives and procedural requirements
  • Be able to successfully complete internal/external safety valve training and high-pressure operator training as required.
  • Candidate must complete and pass the Pipefitter/Oxygen Clean Standards Level I, II, and III as established on the approved checklist.


U.S. Citizenship required. Six years of experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school, or trade program (completion of apprenticeship preferred). Must be able to effectively communicate with others. Review and understand all level requirements.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office Environment (15%)

Test environment (85%) - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, steam, high pressure lines, and industrial facilities.

Travel between various facilities and during test operations required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operations (10%)

Physical Requirements:

Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware, and articles. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb various heights, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35 lbs. (100%). Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%). Corrected vision and hearing at all times (100%).

Must be able to use the following:

  • Platform or A-frame ladders up to 12 Ft (30%)
  • Extension ladders up to 24 Ft (10%)
  • Personal or one-man aerial lifts up to 30 Ft. (10%)
  • Articulating or boom aerial lifts up to 35 Ft. (10%)


Equipment and Machines :

Will use hand tools/power tools/mechanical/electrical control devices. (40%)

Personal computers and related equipment (20%)

Safety and personal protective equipment (100%)

Attendance:

Regular attendance is mandatory (100%)

Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
