Junior Cloud Information Assurance Specialist

This position requires US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD clearance. Candidates who are not eligible for a DoD clearance are not eligible for hire. This is a remote position, however candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA.

Day in the life:

• Monitor cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.) for security threats, anomalies, and suspicious activities
• Triage and respond to security alerts and incidents, escalating as needed
• Assist in the analysis of security incidents to identify root causes and provide recommendations for improvement
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and scans on cloud resources and applications
• Assist in the identification, prioritization, and tracking of vulnerabilities
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to implement remediation strategies
• Support the implementation and enforcement of cloud security policies, standards, and guidelines
• Assist in ensuring compliance with industry regulations (e.g., NIST, DoD, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA) and internal security frameworks.
• Help with documentation related to security controls and compliance efforts
• Assist in managing identity and access controls within cloud platforms
• Support the configuration of roles, permissions, and security groups to ensure least privilege access
• Learn and utilize various cloud security tools (e.g., SIEM, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, cloud security posture management tools)
• Assist in developing and maintaining scripts for security automation (e.g., for monitoring, reporting, or configuration)
• Work closely with security teams, DevOps, and IT teams to integrate security best practices into cloud deployments
• Maintain accurate documentation of security configurations, procedures, and incident responses
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's cloud security posture

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree with 1-2 years of experience, Associate degree with +2 years relevant experience, or no degree with +4 years relevant experience
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
• US Citizenship
• Experience with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is highly desirable, even if it's from personal projects or academic work
• Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles (e.g., network security, encryption, threat detection, incident response)
• Basic knowledge of cloud computing concepts and services (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, virtual machines, networking, storage)
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation
• Understanding of operating systems (Linux and Windows servers)
• Knowledge of basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks
• Proactive and eager to learn new technologies and security concepts
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively

Preferred Skills:

• Active Secret Clearance
• Cloud-specific certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, or Google Cloud Digital Leader
• Entry-level cybersecurity certifications like CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or EC-Council CEH
• Exposure to security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) is a plus

Benefit selection, customer contractual specifications, relevant work experience, skills, competencies, certifications, and clearance status will influence the final salary.
Full benefits: $82,000 to $103,000 annually
Reduced benefits (no medical, dental, vision): Up to $112,000 annually
