Duties

As a FLIGHT ENGINEER (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2185-10, you will serve as instructor/flight examiner providing instruction, evaluation and examination on ground and operational training flights to develop and upgrade skills of non-rated aircrew members; applying knowledge of the full range of aircrew duties and responsibilities, methods of instruction and requirements of the program; perform standardization, currency, instrument, proficiency, tactical, and emergency response flights; assess newly assigned individuals' level of experience and training through review of training records and/or proficiency flight evaluation to determine proficiency and Readiness Level status; plan and manage the UH60L/M non-rated aircrew training program, schedule and conduct initial, refresher and continuing training, (including ground and flight tasks); provide training on operational principles and characteristics of major aircraft systems and parameters, and equipment troubleshooting; instruct proper methods of performing aircrew duties such as computation of aircraft weight and balance, techniques of aircraft internal and external loads, forms and records completion, arm and hand signals, cold and hot refueling, hoist operations and use of ground equipment; perform a variety of administrative functions associated with the non-rated aircrew training program and ensure all applicable publications are current, keeping crew members informed of pertinent changes; may assist the pilot in the operation of communications/navigation equipment, performing basic navigation and map reading and checklist reading; provide direction and operational progress to pilot regarding maneuvering the aircraft over objects for hoist and sling operations and in securing and releasing external cargo loads; perform other duties as assigned.

  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (E7 and below)

General Experience: Experience in performing, instructing, and evaluating flight crew duties in Army aircraft.

Specialized Experience: Must have at least 500 hours of non-rated crewmember military flight hours; Readiness Level 1 (RL1); qualified Flight Instructor (FI) or Standardization Instructor (SI); experienced and familiar with implementing non-rated aircrew training programs and managing aircrew training records. Must have a valid DA Form 2992 "Upslip" stating fit for duty.

Education
