Responsibilities
The Control Technician 2 is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and technical support of existing building automation and control systems. This role ensures that all BAS equipment, sensors, actuators, and controllers are functioning properly to optimize facility performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system reliability. The technician works closely with facility engineers, operators, and management to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain BAS systems across the site.

Responsibilities
The Control Technician 2 is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and technical support of existing building automation and control systems. This role ensures that all BAS equipment, sensors, actuators, and controllers are functioning properly to optimize facility performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system reliability. The technician works closely with facility engineers, operators, and management to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain BAS systems across the site.
- Operations & Monitoring
- Monitor BAS systems to ensure proper performance of HVAC, lighting, and other facility control systems.
- Review system alarms, trends, and performance reports to proactively identify issues.
- Maintain accurate system documentation, graphics, and control sequences.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine inspections, calibrations, and preventive maintenance on BAS hardware (controllers, sensors, actuators, and network components).
- Diagnose and resolve BAS-related issues, including communication faults, control loop failures, and equipment interface problems.
- Repair or replace defective components and coordinate with OEM/vendor support when necessary.
- System Optimization
- Adjust programming, setpoints, and schedules to improve energy efficiency and meet operational requirements.
- Implement system updates and minor programming changes under the guidance of engineers.
- Support continuous commissioning and system performance improvement efforts.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain O&M logs, service records, and update as-built drawings and control sequences.
- Provide system performance reports and recommend corrective or optimization actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company standards, and operational procedures.
- Support & Coordination
- Collaborate with facility managers, engineers, and contractors on BAS projects, upgrades, and expansions.
- Train and assist facility operations staff in the proper use of BAS interfaces and controls.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours BAS issues when required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/ GED required
- 3+ years of experience in BAS controls, HVAC O&M, or related field required.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; Ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance required.
Certifications:
- Obtain, at the Company's expense, a CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain this certification status while employed by M.C. Dean, Inc.
- Pass a background investigation and drug test.
- Strong knowledge of BAS systems (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, Schneider, or similar, Metasys).
- Familiarity with control sequences, system architecture, and integration with HVAC/mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and control schematics.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret control circuits, schematics, and various line diagrams.
- Proficiency with computers, networks, and BAS front-end software.
- Ability to select various control components needed in the fabrication of Control Panels. To read and prepare a BOM (Bill of Materials) from specifications and/or according to NEC and UL508A standards.
- Ability to size circuit breakers and fuses for control and power circuits according to specifications and/or NEC standards.
- Ability to install, wire, and test wiring of PLC's, VFD's, and other Solid State control components.
- Knowledge and use multi-function meters and various test equipment necessary to project.
- Understanding of various Industrial automation and control schemes.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.

Abilities:
- The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.

- Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
- Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
