Duties

  • You will service lines, substations, transformers, converters, regulators, circuit breakers, round connects, mechanical/electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and power generating facilities.
  • You will installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing systems such as lighting protection systems
  • You will perform installation or repair of power transfer units which automatically control emergency generators when sensing low commercial line voltage, motor/engine malfunctions utilizing relays, timers, and time delay relays.
  • You will troubleshoot cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks, using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter, ohmmeter, and megger.
  • You will maintain, replace, test and reset circuit breakers in switch and substations, at shore installations including pier mounted unit substations and vaults.
  • You will services, maintain, and provide short power cables from pier side shore power mounds to ships.

  • You will be required to sign a mobility agreement to accept relocation to other geographic locations if required by the employer.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States Commercial driver's license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Using electric power-generating and distribution equipment; 2) Reading circuit diagrams of interconnects to diagnose problems 3) Running diagnostic tests on electric power-controlling equipment in substations and power generating facilities.
