The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. As a Mechanical Design Engineer...
- Your primary responsibility will be doing design and mechanical/structural analysis of DoD weapon systems and other vehicles.
- You will define future conceptual vehicle designs, and perform detailed and system level vehicle design, including integration with launch platforms.
- You will design and build wind tunnel models and other rapid prototype hardware, and this will include working with outside vendors and internal manufacturing capabilities to build hardware that meets requirements and schedules.
- You will lead and contribute to planning activities for future projects and initiatives while providing technical guidance for ongoing projects.
- You will craft reports and presentations to communicate results to team members and government partners.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
- Have at least two years of relevant experience in aerospace hardware design and/or analysis, wind tunnel model development, or vehicle structural and dynamic analysis.
- Have prior experience with MATLAB or other computational software.
- Have prior experience with CAD and FEA software such as Solidworks or Creo.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Are willing and able to travel occasionally to attend meetings or tests at other government and contractor sites.
- Are comfortable working in closed area facilities.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
- Have a Masters or Doctoral degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or another related technical discipline.
- Have knowledge of non-linear analyses or experience with high temperature materials.
- Have experience with ANSYS, LS-DYNA, or ABAQUS.
- Have experience with additive manufacturing and/or rapid prototyping techniques or experience with wind tunnel test article design.
- Have demonstrated initiative, motivation, and flexibility.
