Raytheon is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Engineer with experience in nanomaterials, ceramics and/or MEMS processing to help us design and provide proof of concept solutions for the next generation of high-performance Electro-Optic materials and subsystems. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and technicians to design, fabricate, rapid prototype and test new generation game-changing solutions/products. This position is located on-site in McKinney Texas.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop and troubleshoot synthesis processes.

Perform trade studies and characterization studies and other forms of analysis to predict component/system performance.

Plan and carry out high impact, complex engineering projects as directed.

Apply a wide range of standard techniques to tasks across a number of fields where the work is complex and will determine applications under limited direction.

Work with nanomaterials, acids, bases, and other chemicals in a lab environment on a daily basis.

Interact with external collaborators to strengthen existing research projects.

Investigate topics wider than their initial focus area and develop skills outside of their area of expertise when needed.

Contribute to the preparation of new funding proposals for sponsored research

Basic Qualifications / Experience Requirements

5+ years of experience or equivalent experience in a relevant nano-materials, chemistry, physics, material science engineering, or materials science field.

Nano-materials synthesis, fabrication and/or applications

Cleanroom experience

Experience developing test plans and procedures

Training will be provided on all of the necessary equipment, but the candidate must be prepared to work independently as needed.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working independently but also successfully collaborate with researchers from different technical backgrounds.

Candidate must be accountable, have initiative, be innovative, with a positive can-do attitude.

Contribute to programs, working both as an individual and in small teams.

Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and actively participate and encourage team, work and group activities.

Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Good presentation and organizational skills

Good verbal and written communications skills

Proven ability to work in a team and to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships, including with peers across disciplines.

Recording and documenting data into a database system as well as keeping a lab notebook

Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).

Must be a U.S. Citizen, as this position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance and will require the ability to access U.S. only data systems.

Ability to obtain U.S. Secret security clearance and special access clearable.

Desired Qualifications:

LabVIEW experience preferred

COMSOL experience preferred

Experience with MEMS

Good working background in the use of laboratory equipment and measuring devices

Excellent presentation and organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Preferred Education:

PhD with 3+ years of experience or equivalent experience in a relevant nano-materials, chemistry, physics, material science engineering, or materials science field.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
