Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to support NAVSEA 09P’s Navy Modernization Program. This role provides critical database management, administration, and security support for systems that ensure the U.S. Navy Warfighter receives efficient, high-quality ship modernization services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience administering, testing, and implementing computer databases, with applied knowledge of DoD/Navy operations, policies, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer, test, and implement computer databases supporting Navy Modernization (NM) programs, including Navy Data Environment (NDE) modules.
Apply DoD and Navy policies and procedures (DoD 5000 process) to database administration.
Plan, coordinate, and implement cybersecurity measures to protect databases, ensuring compliance with NIST Special Publication 800-37.
Maintain databases within application areas, either independently or as part of a development team.
Coordinate changes to computer databases in support of configuration management and life-cycle management of ship modernization data.
Provide technical guidance and support to program managers and Navy stakeholders on database operations, security, and compliance.
Contribute to daily NDE Help Desk operations, troubleshooting database issues, and resolving trouble tickets.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
15+ years of experience administering, testing, and implementing computer databases.
Strong knowledge of DoD/Navy operations and DoD/DoN policies, including the DoD 5000 process.
Experience with cybersecurity, data security, and compliance in a DoD environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, or related discipline.
Database-specific certifications (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, or similar).
Demonstrated applied knowledge of NIST Special Publication 800-37.
Experience supporting Navy modernization or military fleet operations.
Skills & Expertise:
Database administration, implementation, and testing in high-security DoD environments.
Knowledge of Navy Modernization Program processes, including Ship Change Documents (SCDs) and NDE modules.
Ability to maintain database integrity, security, and performance.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders across Navy commands.
