Duties

1. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)objectives. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Recommends awards when appropriate and approves within-grade increases. Hears and resolves employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems. Effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and recommends action in more serious disciplinary matters. Prepares documentation to support actions taken. Identifies employee developmental needs and provides or arranges for training (formal and on-the-job) to maintain and improve job performance. Encourages self-development. Approves master leave schedule assuring adequate coverage for peak workloads and traditional holiday vacation time. Discharges security responsibilities by ensuring education and compliance with security directives for employees with access to classified or sensitive material. Recognizes and takes action to correct situations posing a threat to the health or safety of subordinates. Applies EEO principles and requirements to all personnel management actions and decisions, and ensures all personnel are treated in a manner free of discrimination. Periodically reviews position descriptions to ensure accuracy, and the most effective utilization of personnel resources. Explains classification determinations to subordinate employees. 2. Represents the Security Forces Flight with a variety of functional area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with the base community. Meets with key customer and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise. Provides or ensures that subordinates provide customer guidance and training. Participates in special projects and initiatives and performs special assignments. Identifies the need for special projects and initiates milestones and goals. Evaluates reports by analyzing facts and performing appropriate research and prepares detailed responses. Determines appropriate recommendations for unresolved or questionable problems and performs follow-up. Researches and determines or recommends appropriate actions or interpretation of issues that impact the organization. 3. Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties within the military facility. Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention which entails carrying a firearm, operating Security Forces vehicles and equipment, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations on a military installation. The incumbent is required to meet all requirements of Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force (AF), NGB, State, and local level rules and regulations to maintain qualification as a police officer whose jurisdiction is only within the confines of the military facility. Directs and ensures thorough investigations of accidents, suspicious activities, and arrests, and promotes community relations. Directs and supervises the dispatch operation activities involving security force patrols to scenes of crimes, accidents, natural disasters, and apprehensions. Directs or personally performs preliminary and final short-term investigations of a broad range of alleged and actual crimes occurring solely within the local facility jurisdiction. Directs and ensures that all individuals requesting access to the facility have the proper identification credentials before entering. Directs and participates in training exercises and evaluations to increase proficiency and update skills and knowledge of organization/flight personnel. Responds to calls for emergency assistance to include traffic accidents, suicides, burglary, robbery, sex offenses, suspicious persons, catastrophic events, scenes of crimes/natural disasters, and possibly murder, and enemy attacks, and makes apprehensions. . Enforces weapons systems security standards, traffic rules and regulations, including those related to speed, reckless and drunken driving. Stops violators, notifies them of the traffic offense committed, and issues armed forces traffic tickets and DoD violation notices as appropriate. Ensures accurate completion of required paperwork, forms, and reports.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

Military Grades: ENLISTED E-5 TO E-6

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level. lead, manage, and perform security force activities in direct support of the United States Nuclear Enterprise; weapon systems and physical security; law and order; military working dog; combat arms; and area security operations. The work directs the control and operations of firing ranges; and inspects, repairs, and maintains ground weapons. Enforce laws, maintains law and order, preserves the peace, and protects life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations

Quality of Experience: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled.

An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.3. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.*4. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.5. The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. The employee is required to properly carry, maintain, load, unload and fire various weapons. The employee will have resource protection (weapons and ammunition) responsibilities that could include the use of deadly force.7. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.8. Employee must successfully complete annual/recurring requirements specified for the position. Courses include: Law of Armed Conflict, Explosive Safety, Professional and Unprofessional relationships, Suicide Awareness, and other programs as directed by the Security Forces Commander.
