Job Description

MTSI is seeking a Data Architect & Scientist SME to support digital transformation, infrastructure modernization, and the development of mission-critical analytics capabilities across secure environments. This role combines advanced systems design, data-driven decision frameworks, and scalable software development to deliver high-reliability architectures tailored for U.S. national security operations.

The ideal candidate is a systems engineer and data scientist with expertise in designing auditable and scalable infrastructures, implementing advanced machine learning workflows, and enabling multimodal system integration in classified ecosystems. The role focuses on integrating secure data architectures and enabling lifecycle traceability to strengthen mission assurance and sustainability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design scalable, secure data architectures that enable lifecycle compliance and traceability across multimodal and mission-critical systems.
  • Develop and deploy machine learning workflows, probabilistic reasoning frameworks, and advanced algorithms tailored for operational objectives.
  • Integrate distributed, auditable data pipelines aligned with DevSecOps workflows to support rapid testing and validation of system prototypes.
  • Direct efforts to enhance semantic clarity and modular tool design by building ontologies and architectures to enable streamlined multimodal integration.
  • Create interoperability guidelines aligned with open system architectures, ensuring scalability and adaptability across mission-critical systems of systems.
  • Develop intuitive, software-driven decision aids and dashboards that transform complex data into actionable intelligence for key stakeholders.
  • Oversee cross-functional prototyping efforts to test and evaluate innovative solutions, balancing resilience and mission assurance requirements.
  • Mentor engineers and analysts to strengthen adoption of ML-driven architectures and sustain technical capability across mission-critical programs.
  • Document system designs, workflows, and innovations to ensure operational continuity and compliance with lifecycle standards.

Required Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience integrating data architectures (cloud, hybrid, or on-premise) and analytics solutions across mission-critical environments.
  • Expertise in Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and probabilistic modeling frameworks for machine learning applications.
  • Proficiency in integrating distributed pipelines with lifecycle analytics frameworks, simulation readiness requirements, and secure DevSecOps workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance systems design using ontologies, modular tools, and architectures focused on interoperability within System-of-Systems environments.
  • Hands-on experience in systems engineering and algorithm development for decision aids aligned with mission objectives.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust, RMF (NIST SP 800-37/800-53), and DoD Digital Data Strategy, and similar standards to ensure compliance and secure ecosystem integration.
  • Exceptional communication skills to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams and deliver data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support analytics, simulation, and decision-support across complex mission systems
  • Proven ability to define and implement data governance and data quality practices

Desired Skills:
  • Proficiency in designing adaptive architectures to integrate ML-enabled workflows and data-driven modeling.
  • Experience mentoring teams, championing innovative solutions, and maintaining mission resilience across high-stakes projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and timelines in cross-functional, classified environments.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or related disciplines required.
  • Master's degree or PhD preferred.

Security Clearance Level Required:
  • An active TS/SCI security clearance is required to start.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Location: Flexible, with priority posting in Ohio (OH), Virginia (VA), and Alabama (AL).
