Software Developer 3
Mid-Senior Level | Kirtland AFB, NM | $100,000 - $120,000 | Active TS/SCI Eligible Clearance Required

Support mission-critical space operations by modernizing legacy command and control software-developing secure, scalable applications that directly enable U.S. Space Force capabilities.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
  • Analyze the architecture, functionality, and dependencies of legacy Mission Unique Software (MUS) applications.
  • Design, develop, and implement a modernized Python-based solution within the COSMOS OpenC3 command and control framework.
  • Create and extend system automation tools, integrations, and APIs supporting the new application environment.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans including unit and integration testing to ensure functionality, performance, and security requirements are met.
  • Integrate security into the development lifecycle (DevSecOps), utilizing code analysis tools and supporting remediation and disaster recovery processes.
  • Author and maintain high-quality project, system, and service documentation.
  • Identify issues, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to continuous process improvement and system optimization.
  • Collaborate with Active Duty, U.S. Government, and contractor personnel in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret or DoE Q clearance with SCI eligibility (must be eligible for SCI indoctrination within first 3 months of start date) and ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI; U.S. Citizenship required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Proven experience as a software developer with strong proficiency in Python
  • Experience developing and deploying applications on Linux-based systems
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Strong communication skills for technical collaboration and documentation
  • Ability to work independently and within collaborative engineering teams
  • Ability to support an in-person / secure development environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with C/C++ for analyzing and understanding legacy codebases
  • Direct experience with the COSMOS OpenC3 platform
  • Familiarity with satellite ground systems, Telemetry & Command (T&C) processing, and CCSDS standards
  • Knowledge of API design principles and experience building RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Python test automation frameworks
  • Understanding of DevSecOps practices and experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube, Fortify)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline development using tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet
