The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. Hardware Engineering's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers.
The UES department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to become a member of the ESSM® Missile Launcher team. This role will be on-site and located in Portsmouth, RI.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

The UES department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to become a member of the ESSM® Missile Launcher team. This role will be on-site and located in Portsmouth, RI.
What You Will Do
- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Support the factory and suppliers with product integration
- Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
- Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience in leading small development efforts and teams with cost and schedule responsibility
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), Tolerance Analysis, metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts)
- Experience with CAD modeling and Engineering Documentation practices.

Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience in specification, design, development, production and testing of electronics systems. Specific knowledge of packaging electronic equipment to meet physical and environmental constraints is preferred
- Experience with technical execution and development of proposal cost and technical volumes.
- Experience with or certifications to write engineering basis of estimates (BOEs)
- Ability to support international travel (~30%) to customer sites or suppliers
- Experience with PTC CREO and PDM
- Experience and certifications in Earned Value Project Management
- Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a cross functional team
- Strong communication skillset with ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences
