A Day in the Life - What you'll do
- Lead EMI/EMC design and compliance strategy for spacecraft subsystems and assembly-level hardware.
- Define electromagnetic compatibility architectures, grounding schemes, shielding approaches, and filtering strategies across complex systems.
- Perform requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability from system-level EMI/EMC requirements to subsystem and component specifications.
- Conduct electromagnetic modeling and simulation using Ansys HFSS to predict coupling, interference, and system-level performance.
- Execute trade studies to optimize EMI/EMC design solutions across size, weight, power, and performance constraints.
- Support conceptual design and detailed development of electrical subsystems with a focus on EMI/EMC robustness.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and integration teams to ensure EMI/EMC considerations are incorporated early in the design lifecycle.
- Develop and review schematics, interface control documents (ICDs), and electrical design artifacts with EMI/EMC best practices.
- Support and oversee environmental and EMC testing, including test planning, execution, and anomaly resolution.
- Analyze test data, document exceedances, and generate detailed compliance and certification reports.
- Drive mitigation strategies for EMI/EMC risks, including grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering solutions.
- Participate across the full engineering lifecycle-from concept development through integration, test, and system delivery.
- Maintain strong collaboration across cross-functional teams supporting mission-critical programs.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM discipline from an accredited institution with 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience, or 7+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Active Top Secret security clearance with ability to obtain SCI
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and electromagnetic theory
- Demonstrated experience in EMI/EMC design, analysis, and compliance for electronic systems
- Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools, including Ansys HFSS
- Experience with requirements decomposition, system-level flow-down, and technical allocation
- Extensive knowledge of grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering techniques for EMI/EMC control
- Experience supporting hardware development, integration, and EMC test activities
- Ability to analyze and interpret EMI/EMC test data and develop corrective actions
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative, cross-functional engineering environments
- Experience with space, aerospace, or defense systems operating in harsh electromagnetic environments
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC standards such as MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-462, MIL-STD-1541, and SMC-S-016
- Experience with electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) including radiation and Total Ionizing Dose (TID)
- Knowledge of circuit design, interface control, and hardware-level specifications
