MITRE's Systems Security Engineering Department has a new opportunity for a strong technical candidate with Cyber Test expertise to join an innovative team of engineers focused on ensuring resilient and secure solutions for sponsor / customer needs and developing security capabilities for a safer world.
For this position, you will leverage your academic foundation and your work experiences to develop, hone and apply your knowledge of the latest test, systems security and cybersecurity engineering concepts to ensure resilient and secure solutions for sponsor or customer needs. Also, you will have opportunities to merge your work and interests with advancements from research, industry, academia, and standards groups to develop novel security capabilities.

We are seeking a self-starter that assists in applying cyber test principles to build security into large engineering projects and acquisition efforts. Roles & Responsibilities:
The Cyber Engineer will be a core member of the technical team and serve as the first-line support to our United States Space Force (USSF) Sponsor in Los Angeles. The position requires direct in-person contributions to our El Segundo-based Sponsor. This is an onsite position.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist in development of systems security and cybersecurity strategy development, system testing and evaluation, and verification and validation efforts
- Providing contributions to secure system design, test principles and test execution both within MITRE and for our sponsors, reflecting recent relevant research and commercial technology.
- Contribute to projects or small teams to solve complex cybersecurity problems for our sponsors
- Contribute to the innovation of new AI use cases applied to cyber operational challenges
- Keep pace with the rapidly advancing lifecycle of emerging technologies to maintain cutting edge support of sponsor programs

- Provide recommendations on ensuring systems are specified, designed, developed, implemented, integrated, and sustained to meet security, resiliency, and safety needs, goals and objectives
- Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes for understanding, assessing, and analyzing system and technology resilience and security
- Assist in development of systems security and cybersecurity strategy development, system testing and evaluation, and verification and validation efforts
- Contribute technically to one or more MITRE Space Force cybersecurity tasks.
- Collaborate effectively with MITRE, government, and contractors; to effectively communicate in writing, presentations, and collaborative discussions; able to interface with peers, managers, and government sponsors.
- Promote collaboration and integration with other organizational elements within the Space C2 department and across MITRE.
- Familiarity with vulnerability scanners and network intrusion detection tools.
- Applied understanding and experience with one or more competencies within cybersecurity:
- Fundamental technological skills: Understanding the basics of networking, operating systems, AI, Blockchain, and security tools.
- Risk identification and management: The ability to identify vulnerabilities and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Data management and analysis: The ability to manage and analyze structured and unstructured data.
- Cloud implementation and management: Understanding cloud systems and ensuring data security within them.
- Robust knowledge of, and experience with, operational cyber security practices and commonly used technologies
- Some level of programming and scripting in languages like JavaScript, Python, and PowerShell is vital for writing internal systems and automating tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and across Government sponsors as appropriate and experience leveraging relationships to benefit staff and work programs.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Experience leading teams or projects/tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Demonstrated technical depth in the field of Systems Security Engineering, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering
- Experience developing Systems Security Engineering solutions and capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build consensus across organizational units
- The ability to think critically and be proactive in pursuing research and problem-solving with minimal supervision.
- Communicate highly conceptual ideas effectively.
- Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
- Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
- Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant field
- Experience with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) space and/or ground systems
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Recognized expertise in Space systems, Space and Ground Mission Platforms, Mission applications, and Modeling & Simulation
- Experience in the Missile Warning-Missile Tracking (MW-MT) and/or Missile Defense (MD)
- Top Secret clearance
- Experience with Digital Engineering
