Location: Littleton, CO (Onsite Only)
Type of Role: Direct Hire (Full-Time, Onsite)
Shift: 9x80 Schedule (Every other Friday off; onsite full-time)
Pay: $104,500 – $184,115 annually in CA, MA, NY (excluding most major metropolitan areas), CO, HI, IL, MD, MN, NJ, VT, WA, and Washington DC; for other states, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location and consider scope, responsibilities, experience, education/training, key skills, and market and business factors
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role is for a Staff Mechanical Engineer – Structural Engineering Lead supporting highly classified space programs within a national security-focused organization. The engineer will lead structural analysis activities for spacecraft components and full spacecraft systems, supervise a team of mechanical engineers, and provide technical leadership to ensure structurally sound designs that meet demanding mission requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Supervise a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical oversight, mentoring, and guidance.
Perform detailed structural design and analysis on spacecraft components and the overall spacecraft system.
Prepare technical memoranda and recommendations to support peer and customer reviews.
Present design and analysis data to spacecraft design and engineering teams, customer technical representatives, and program office personnel at technical interchange meetings and formal design reviews.
Review, interpret, flow down, and implement program requirements into structural design and analysis activities.
Provide test support for component-level and system-level structural tests, including planning, data review, and correlation of test results to analysis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Expertise with structural analysis methods and processes (including load paths, mechanical joints, stress/strain, fatigue/fracture, buckling, and classical hand calculations).
Expertise with finite element numerical solution tools (such as NX and NX Nastran or equivalent).
Active Top Secret or SCI security clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
10+ years of relevant professional experience in structural analysis of space structures.
Experience leading structural analysis efforts in support of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design activities.
Experience with engineering-level computer programming (e.g., MATLAB) to support analysis and automation.
Experience with test engineering, instrumentation, data collection, and/or preparation of test reports.
Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and quickly and efficiently drive them to closure.
Willingness to mentor and develop junior engineers.
Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
