Job Description

Apogee has an exciting new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer supporting a Special Mission C-130 undergoing simultaneous Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) and aircraft modification. This is an on-aircraft, production-floor engineering role embedded on the depot PDM/Mod line. The engineer will provide real-time technical direction to maintenance/mod teams, develop and disposition structural and corrosion repairs, and troubleshoot mechanical and pneudraulic systems while ensuring strict compliance with Air Force Technical Orders (TOs) and heavy aircraft maintenance/modification practices.

This position requires significant depot-level aircraft MRO experience (PDM/heavy maintenance/modification environment) and is not a desk-only engineering role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-aircraft engineering support for C-130 heavy maintenance and modification activities occurring concurrently on a depot line.
  • Develop, evaluate, and disposition structural repairs (including damage assessment, repair approach selection, and coordination of repair execution).
  • Evaluate and disposition corrosion on aircraft structure/components; support corrosion prevention and control actions and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with aircraft mechanical and pneudraulic systems, such as:
    • Flight controls (primary/secondary)
    • Landing gear and associated pneudraulic components
    • Environmental control systems and related mechanical interfaces
  • Interpret and apply Air Force Technical Orders, engineering data, drawings, and depot maintenance/mod instructions to ensure airworthiness and compliance.
  • Support deficiency investigations and documentation (e.g., engineering assist requests, quality escapes, discrepancy reports) and provide timely depot-floor resolutions.
  • Participate in and support program events and technical reviews (TIMs, PDR/CDR, CCBs, AW activities, FATs as applicable).
  • Coordinate with IPT members (structures, systems, avionics/integration, logistics, QA) to ensure work is safe, technically correct, and schedule-aligned.
  • Support sustainment and integrity programs as applicable (OSS&E, ASIP/MECSIP/AVIP, corrosion programs).

Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Clearance: Must possess an Active Secret clearance
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.

Years of Experience:
  • 12 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline, 5 years of which must be in the DoD or other USG ISR/SOF organizations
  • Significant depot-level aircraft maintenance/MRO experience supporting heavy aircraft in one or more of the following environments:
    • Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM)
    • Depot modification/upgrade lines
    • Heavy maintenance/structural repair/mod centers
  • Demonstrated experience applying Air Force Technical Orders (TOs) in a depot or heavy maintenance/mod context.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional Experience:
  • C-130 (any variant) depot/PDM/modification experience; Special Mission aircraft experience a plus.
  • Experience with airworthiness/certification activities and configuration governance (CCB, AW).
  • Familiarity with integrity programs (OSS&E, ASIP/MECSIP/AVIP) and corrosion programs.
  • Experience supporting depot documentation workflows (e.g., engineering dispositions, MRB-like processes, DRs).
  • Experience with aircraft drawings, 3D/CAD viewing tools, and basic analysis tools relevant to structures/systems.
