Job Description:
Performs complex production assembly operations on structural parts, mechanical assemblies, subassemblies and aircraft systems, equipment and accessories using manual or automated assembly tools.
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of fabrication, integration and test of space flight systems and support equipment.
Position Responsibilities
Assembles, installs, tests, checks out and inspects mechanical spacecraft assemblies by interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures
Performs second party verifications and visually inspects mechanical assemblies to drawings, engineering specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures
Operates various materials handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lift equipment, flight vehicle and sub-assembly transportation equipment, truck/tractor trailer combinations and other GSE as required
Operates a wide range of machine tools. Included but not limited to, drill press, grinders, chop saw, power, and hand tools
Interfaces and/or works closely with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Procurement and Shipping personnel on procedural issues involving design, methods, tooling, cost, and other areas involved in the control of product quality
Supports in other mechanical areas defined by Millennium Space Systems Leadership as business needs require
Cross-trains/mentors new hires
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
High School Diploma or GED
More than 5 years of experience with Structures Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Electrical Assembly, and/or Final Assembly
More than 3 years of experience following written and verbal work instructions
More than 3 years of experience in working with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures
More than 3 years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators
More than 3 years of experience working with at least one of the following materials (Adhesives; Composites; Epoxy; Fabrics; Honeycomb Core; Laminates/plastics; Resins)
Ability to stand and move (reach, bend, or stoop) to handle products for extended periods of time with only short breaks
Capable of lifting 20lbs or more on a frequent basis
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
More than 3 years of experience using structures hand tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers
More than 3 years of experience using all the following Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
More than 3 years of experience working in at least a 100,000 Class Clean Room environment
More than 5 years of experience building a variety of component-level space products (e.g. avionics boxes, batteries, mechanisms, optics, printed circuit board assemblies, solar arrays, etc.)
More than 5 years of experience with mechanical trouble shooting, disassembly and repair
