As a Field Technician, you will be an essential member of the Field Services team supporting operations within a secure, mission-focused environment. You will be responsible for the setup, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user devices, ensuring secure and seamless IT operations for critical personnel and systems.

This role requires a technically proficient and customer-focused professional who can proactively manage sensitive IT assets, deliver timely issue resolution, and support IT operations aligned with organizational and cybersecurity objectives. Occasional after-hours support may be required to resolve critical issues and maintain operational continuity.

Position Overview
The Field Technician is a hands-on "boots-on-the-ground" IT support resource responsible for supporting the physical IT environment at Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB). The position focuses on hardware deployment, basic troubleshooting, asset management, network connectivity, endpoint security, and maintaining a safe and secure IT environment.

Field Support Technician I personnel perform structured, routine tasks using established procedures and checklists, while Technician II personnel may handle more advanced troubleshooting and work with greater independence.

Core Duties & Responsibilities
Hardware Deployment & Setup
Unbox, assemble, and physically install workstations, monitors, printers, phones, and other IT equipment.
Set up and organize workspace cabling, including power and Ethernet connections.
Relocate, replace, and configure IT equipment according to work orders and established procedures.
Verify newly deployed equipment is operational before releasing it to the end user.
Standard Troubleshooting
Resolve basic physical hardware and connectivity issues, including loose cables, failed power supplies, and improper connections.
Troubleshoot basic Windows operating system and peripheral issues.
Resolve common printer and peripheral problems, including paper jams, connectivity issues, and driver updates.
Document troubleshooting activities and resolutions.
Escalate issues requiring advanced technical support to senior technicians or appropriate support teams.
Inventory & Asset Auditing
Receive, unpack, inspect, and inventory new IT equipment.
Record serial numbers, asset tags, and equipment information in the asset management database.
Maintain accurate physical inventories of assigned IT assets.
Prepare old, damaged, or obsolete equipment for secure disposal, recycling, or return shipment.
Follow established procedures for asset movement, storage, transfer, and disposition.
Basic Network Hookups
Connect workstations and endpoint devices to approved network drops.
Test physical network connections to verify connectivity.
Identify basic physical network issues, including damaged, disconnected, or improperly connected cables.
Escalate advanced network issues to qualified network personnel.
Cybersecurity & Physical Security Responsibilities
Endpoint Security Verification
Verify required security software, including antivirus and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) agents, is installed, active, and functioning before releasing equipment to users.
Report security software failures or endpoint compliance issues through established procedures.
Never bypass or disable required security controls without authorization.
Physical Security Awareness
Ensure network closets, server racks, security cages, and other controlled areas remain secured when not actively being accessed.
Follow all LAAFB access-control, physical-security, and escort requirements.
Protect government IT equipment and infrastructure from unauthorized access, damage, or tampering.
Secure Hardware Handling
Safeguard storage devices and equipment that may contain sensitive information, including Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
Maintain proper chain-of-custody procedures when transporting, replacing, or staging storage devices.
Turn over storage media to authorized personnel for secure destruction or disposition.
Follow all applicable government requirements for handling, storing, transporting, and disposing of IT assets and sensitive information.
Required Qualifications
Must possess an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
Must possess an active CompTIA Security+ (Sec+) certification or other applicable certification meeting the contract's cybersecurity requirements.
Basic knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, and Windows operating systems.
Basic understanding of Ethernet/network connectivity and structured cabling.
Ability to troubleshoot routine hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
Ability to physically install, move, replace, and configure IT equipment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures, SOPs, and checklists.
Ability to accurately track equipment, serial numbers, and asset information.
Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and effectively collaborate with senior technicians and IT teams.
Ability to safely handle and transport IT equipment.
Ability to comply with DoD, LAAFB, security, access-control, and workplace safety requirements.
