Tier III Engineer - Role Overview
Tier III Engineer will provide system and network optimization design, implementation, testing, and maintenance support for the EVS Program. Responsibilities include:
- Resolving escalated network and security support issues (Tier 3)
- Conducting network assessments, identifying vulnerabilities, and recommending/developing solutions
- Leading development of network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures
- Creating and maintaining Engineering Implementation Plans (EIPs)
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, and deployments
- Monitoring, capacity planning, backup, and recovery of network equipment
- Providing testing support for setup, installation, and transition to operations of service infrastructure devices, NMS, and tools
- Supporting administration, patching, configuration, and sustainment activities for JITC lab components hosted at DISA Ft. Meade
- Reviewing ACAS scanning and findings reports
- Providing engineering support to the program ISSM/ISSO to mitigate findings
Required Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of defense-in-depth principles, network and security architecture, network topology, IT device integrity, and common security elements
- 10+ years' experience in engineering and troubleshooting networks, including extensive routing and switching experience such as:
- MPLS
- VPNs
- Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, IS-IS
- Switching protocols: Spanning Tree Protocol, VLANs, LLDP
- VoIP, multicast protocols, and emerging network technologies
- Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of IP network/subnet addressing
- Skilled in developing and maintaining technical documents, analyses, and reports
- Experience presenting technical information to senior customer management, stakeholders, and company leadership
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Juniper route, switch, and security appliances (MX, EX, SRX)
- Experience with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) implementation and design
- Experience with Ribbon Session Border Controllers (SBC)
- Experience with SolarWinds configuration and maintenance
- Experience with Splunk
- Familiarity with NetOps concepts including change, configuration, and performance management
- IAT Level III Certification (e.g., CISSP or equivalent)
Position Expectations
- Ability to work independently with minimal assistance to complete equipment testing
- Capability to collaborate within a team to resolve complex network issues
- Comfort working directly with the prime contractor project team
Interpersonal / Communication Skills Required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate on test plans and reports with Government and vendors
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Visio
Education Requirement
- Bachelor's degree and 12-15 years of prior relevant experience
- OR Master's degree with 10-13 years of prior relevant experience
- Equivalent years of related work experience may be substituted for a degree
